Academy of Taiwan Strings
The Academy of Taiwan Strings (ATS), founded in 1990, is a Taiwanese non-conductor chamber orchestra with the longest history in the country. Since its establishment, the ATS has captivated audiences with its outstanding performing skills and remarkable interpretation. In 2001, the group was selected by the Council for Cultural as the Taiwan Top Performing Arts Group and has held this honor until today. In addition to its regular performances in Taiwan, the ATS has also been invited to carry out concerts in France, Germany, Austria, Japan, and Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
The orchestra has long devoted itself to string music and has achieved a high level in the interpretation of artwork. It has gained positive feedback at home and abroad through collaboration with numerous world-renowned musicians, including Augustin Dumay, Toru Yasunaga, Antje Weithaas, Victor Pikayzen, Midori, Ning Feng, Pi -Chin Chien etc.
On top of its specialization in performance, the ATS has also devoted itself to nurturing professional musicians in Taiwan. The group has invited masters from all over the world to Taiwan for four large-scale music festivals, providing an opportunity for Taiwanese students to learn and refine themselves.
The string orchestra has also held violin competitions for more than two decades. The contest has earned a reputation as one of Taiwan's leading music competitions due to its rigorous arrangement and judging process. Furthermore, with a view to providing children in remote areas with arts education, the ATS has been promoting through crowd funding the programs titled "Children in the Wonderland" and "Tour of Teaching for Rural Taiwan", hoping to sow the seeds of music in elementary schools in remote regions.
